You quiz over the legislature will begin on 11/29 (tomorrow). On this day, you will receive multiple choice/fill-in-the-blank/etc type of questions, and well as being able to review before the quiz. The following day will be reserved exclusively for short answer and essay questions.
I highly suggest you review using the attached packet. You should have had the opportunity to pick these up in class, but here they are again.
Review, Part One
Use complete sentences to answer the following questions to
review for your quiz. You will have questions about both the president and the
legislature.
Example: How many members make are in Congress?
There are
535 members in Congress.
1. What are (all of) the qualifications for the presidency?
What are the qualifications to be a part of Congress? What is the major
difference between these sets of qualifications?
2. What does “bicameral” mean? How did we get a bicameral
legislature?
3. How does reapportionment differ from redistricting?
4. Can a political party redistrict in its favor? How
so/what is this called? Are there any specific methods involved? If so, explain
them.
5. Did the War Powers Act affect the balance of power
between the president and Congress? Explain your answer and be as specific as
possible.
6. How does a bill become a law—explain the entire process.
Be detailed when it comes to where a bill comes from, what happens when the
president gets a bill, what a bill goes through in committee, which house a
bill starts in, etc. THIS PROCESS MUST BE IN THE CORRECT ORDER.
7. Describe the difference between these three words and
then use each one correctly in a sentence that further describes its meaning:
legislature, legislator, legislation.
8. What does it mean to be censured? Is this comparable to
being censored?
9. Describe the effects of political parties on the
legislative process.
10. Describe political parties throughout US history.
